A lifelong civil rights activist and current president and CEO of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, Sharon Robinson believes that to serve the whole child teachers need mastery of
- content,
- skill, and
- professional ethics.
You'll learn more about these three components and their roles in preparing whole teachers to address the needs of all learners at Robinson's 2007 ASCD Annual Conference session, Preparing the Whole Teacher to Teach the Whole Child.

Session 1259: Preparing the Whole Teacher to Teach the Whole Child
Saturday, March 17, 2007, 1:00–2:30 p.m.
This session will draw parallels between the work of ASCD's Commission on the Whole Child and the preparation of teachers who themselves are "whole" and able to educate students holistically. It will connect whole teachers to the definition of a highly qualified teacher as NCLB is reauthorized. The session will draw on the work of James Comer, child psychiatrist at Yale, whose School Development Program addresses the needs of underachieving students. The program's integrated approach to learning relies on alliances among parents, educators, policymakers, and the community to strengthen the educational environment.

It was a pleasure to hear Peter and Andy speak at the ASCD Conference last year in Chicago. Their message was informational as well as inspirational. They gave the participants real life examples of what bullying is and how to deal with it. They impressed me so much that I contacted them to come and give mulitple presentations in my district. Peter and Andy connected with the students, parents, and staff so well that even teachers wanted a longer inservice!! How often do teachers say they want to stay longer?!! Their concept of Leadership Teams in the building that empower students to stop the cycle of bullying is what initially grabbed my interest. It grabbed the interest of parents and teachers alike! Peter and Andy are the most motivational speakers I have heard on bullying and how to deal with this on all levels. They have helped us begin the formation of Leadership Teams in our district and have helped all of us know what to look for when dealing with bullying behavior. Thank you, Peter and Andy!!
